Blue Bow-tie Pasta & a Cheddar Sun Dried Tomato Cheese Sauce

Some of you faithful BS’ers may remember Bob’s black and white bow-tie recipe, well I’m taking my run at them now. At Home Sense, I found the exact same pasta, but this time blue and black. While this pasta is cute and fun for the occasional dinner, I personally wouldn’t add it to my regular diet just because of the high amount of dye in the pasta. But let’s get to this recipe…

Get some similar pasta here:

Start the process by boiling the pasta until cooked in a heavily salted water. I used some smoked sea salt  from the Bulk Barn that added a fabulous smokey taste to the pasta. For the cheese sauce, I brought the following ingredients to a light boil in a medium sized sauce pan:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 of a small white onion (chopped)
  • 1 tsp smoked sea salt
  • 1 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 tbsp honey mustard
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2-3 tbsp sun-dried tomatoes (can add more or less depending on personal preference)
  • Dash of paprika
  • 3/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Plate your cheese sauce and then place the pasta on top of the cheese, allowing the pasta to fully showcase its bright colours.

Enjoy this funky dish,

Carlene

  2. These look pretty interesting =D Haven’t seen anything like that in my shores. Children would absolutely love it. Great for a fun party too! :D

  3. This is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen? Blue and Black pasta? I bet kids would love it and have fun eating it!

  4. I agree, it looks fun as something to try out, but that much food coloring is starting to look like poison (the unnatural blue color isn’t helping much either haha). The dish still looks great, though :)

  5. I like the idea of the blue and white pasta. I was at a party where it was served with butter for the kids.I’ve not been able to find it. Could you tell me where you purchased yours and maybe the name of the company that makes the pasta. Thanks a bunch!

  6. I saw this pasta at a party over the holidays where someone served it for the kids with butter. The kids loved the color. Your recipe sounds delicious and I would love to make it with the blue pasta but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. Could you tell me where you bought it and maybe the company that produces the pasta. Thanks a bunch!

    • Hi Patti,

Thanks for the comment. I bought the pasta at Home Sense (the Home & Kitchen Store of WInners – same family as TJ Maxx in the States). The brand on the bag says it was made by “L’antica Madia”. After digging through google, I found their site: http://www.anticamadia.com/ however, it’s nothing but a photo :(

Closest thing we’ve found to be like the pasta online is the one in our amazon link. If you end up finding it, let us know where you found it!

  10. it it just me or are there no roasted red peppers in this “cheddar roasted red pepper cheese sauce”?

    • Hi Jacqueline,

Good catch! This is what you get for doing a post in the wee hours of the morning – while there are tomatoes there are no red peppers, but I bet it would taste great with adding in a whole roasted red pepper that has been diced.

Thanks for the catch & we’ve made the change to the title! :)

  11. This looks like so much fun! Great for a babysitting night or just to appease the kids. It would be great to do a green pasta with a tomato based sauce for a good carb kick for the kids on Halloween!
