I’m slightly addicted to Pinterest (no, that’s a lie. I’m addicted….) and I kept on seeing pins with cauliflower pizza crust, cauliflower bites, cauliflower imitating bread everywhere! After seeing so many of these pins I thought I’d put one to the test and landed on a recipe for Cauliflower Garlic Cheese “Bread” Sticks that looked pretty good so I gave it a whirl. Cheesy Artichoke Bread

Cheesy Artichoke Bread | bsinthekitchen.com #appetizer #artichoke #bsinthekitchen

Now that Bob and I have both moved out of our parents acreage, we often go back home for a Sunday visit to comfort our poor empty nester parents (you miss us Mom & Dad? Right??), and in true BS’ in the Kitchen fashion, we cook the meal! This past Sunday, we offered a menu of Slow Cooker Pulled Pork with a Purple Cabbage & Apple Slaw, along with an old fashioned Carrot Cake for dessert. As an appetizer, we took to Pinterest and made this Cheesy Artichoke Bread after being highly recommended by a friend. Let’s all stop drooling and get to the recipe!

Italian Salsa Verde

Italian Salsa Verde | bsinthekitchen.com #salsaverde #sauce #bsinthekitchen

As part of my recipe testing for the Meat & Bread Porchetta that i’m planning on making in the near future, I needed to try out an Italian Salsa Verde. Instead of following the salsa verde on I am a Food Blog, I decided to go with a more traditional version and slightly modified a recipe from Bon Appetit.

Apple Butter and Whole Wheat Biscuits

It’s hard to believe fall is really here. I might take some heat for saying this, but fall is my favourite season for numerous reasons – warm weather, crisp mornings and nights, beautiful fall colors, my favourite fashion season (hello boots!) and warm and inviting spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and clove all seem to make an appearance during fall. This recipe for Apple Butter and Whole Wheat Biscuits is a great way to welcome in fall and use up some of your apple harvest. So let’s get to this easy recipe! Continue reading

Dill Pickle Grilled Cheese

It seems like its been an eternity since I last posted a grilled cheese recipe, and with JC100 behind us, I’m finally getting back to regular blogging (a.k.a. MORE GRILLED CHEESE!). As mentioned in a previous post, I spent some time at my girlfriend Megan’s family cabin in BC, relaxing and eating lots during the September long weekend. Naturally, conversation drifted towards grilled cheese at some point during our stay, and Megan’s younger cousin Kasane mentioned she always puts pickles in her grilled cheese sandwiches!

PICKLES!?!

Why had I not done this before?? I’ve enjoyed pickles and cheese on several occasions, but never thought to put them in a grilled cheese! This all changed very quickly, as I later made one for Megan, and we both agreed it was a wonderful combination! So here it is folks:

Provencal Tomatoes | JC100 – Week 12

Here is the second recipe from Week 12 of the Julia Child JC100 celebration. We both agreed these provencal tomatoes were up there with the Asparagus and Hollandaise as the favourite recipe of the week. However, we think these bad boys would best be served as a breakfast food – topped with an egg and some hollandaise sauce (as Bob tested out shortly after making them)! Let’s get to the recipe so you can use some fresh garden tomatoes before the summer is over.

Homestead Banana Bread

Our mom is known for a few classic recipes. Her banana bread is one of, if not the best, recipe she has up her sleeve. She can whip this stuff up in no time flat and it’s eaten almost faster than it’s made. So you know any recipe made by a mom is a tried, tested and true recipe and belongs in your kitchen too! So let’s get to the recipe so you can enjoy it for yourself and add it to your family recipe box. Continue reading

Egg in a Hole Breakfast Grilled Cheese

With April coming to an end, It saddens me to announce the end of National Grilled Cheese Month… Let us all take a moment of silence.

Okay.

Now that our respects have been paid, I present my final grilled cheese of the month. The Egg in a Hole Breakfast Grilled Cheese.

Deconstructed Guacamole Sandwich

After picking up an avocado at the grocery store, in hopes that I would do something cool with it, I had planned on making a toasted tomato sandwich with avocado on it. While that would have been a simple and tasty dish, it wasn’t very creative. Fortunately, inspiration struck courtesy of the ingredients in my fridge (red onion mainly!) and the Deconstructed Guacamole Sandwich was created! These tasted great and were super easy to make, perfect for a quick snack or a twist on the traditional guacamole appetizer at at party!

Beet, Arugula & Goat Cheese Grilled Cheese

I made this grilled cheese a while ago and just haven’t gotten around to posting it, but since it’s NATIONAL GRILLED CHEESE DAY (Probably the best day ever?!?) I couldn’t not post a grilled cheese! Now this one is quite different from anything I have done in the past, with my super hearty and savoury grilled cheese such as the Baked Potato Grilled Cheese. I am personally more a fan of those ones, but I enjoyed switching it up with this one! What are your guys thoughts?
