What’s more Halloween than making dip out of pumpkin, and stuffing it inside of a pumpkin? Nothing! That’s what!

Just kidding… These Mississippi “Blood” Pies, and Spooky Apple Cider Punch are pretty damn Halloween too!

When Carlene and I agreed to do a Halloween segment on CTV Morning Live, we both thought it would be great to do recipes that were very “Halloween”, but would be equally appropriate served to a group of kids, yet not too childish that you couldn’t make them for a group of adults! I think we found a great middle ground, so let’s get to the dip!

My recent adventures in pizza began last week, when I had a few people over for pizza before heading to the Beach House concert. Although I made many delicious pizzas, given that I was hosting people, I didn’t have time to take any pictures for the blog! Fortunately I had a bunch of dough leftover, and some free time, so I went about making some more delicious pizza for the blog.

I hate the word synergy, or at least the whole 1+1=3 concept, but I’ve gotta say, all the components in this dish really amounted to more than just a sum of its parts! This dish is all about taking the time to really focus on each ingredient, so the combination creates something extremely delicious! Fresh tomato coulis, homemade mayonnaise, sourdough bread made from scratch, and an arrangement of delicious greens grown in my own yard! I knew this was going to be tasty, but it turned out even better than I was hoping.
Head over to the Tomato Coulis, and Homemade Mayo recipes before you get into this one! Although I haven’t had time to post up any sourdough recipes, if you don’t have a go to bread recipe, I would suggest getting something fresh from a local bakery. You can expect a whole run-down on creating a sourdough starter, maintaining it, and making bread with it in the future!

Lately I’ve been thinking, rather than trying to cook things off the top of my head, throwing this and that together, I should pick a few recipes to try cooking each week from magazines, blogs, and cookbooks. I’m hoping it not only gets me cooking with different ingredients, but just gets me cooking more in general! I have been eating too many sandwiches for supper lately…

The Breakfast Pizza – the end of a trilogy! This also marks the 4th day in a row that I have eaten pizza. I can’t complain though, pizza is a wonderfully balanced meal in my eyes (and stomach)!
I figured it was time to try making a breakfast pizza, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Not only did it gift my nostrils with the pleasant aroma of my breakfast favourites, the flavour was wonderful! Combining breakfast classics onto thin, airy pizza crust, how could you go wrong? Well you can’t! Unless you burn it of course…

I have had visions of creating a salad in this style for quite some time and finally got around to actually doing it the other day! Along with fancying up the presentation of a watermelon salad, I wanted to try marinating watermelon and this was the perfect opportunity!
Initially I had plans to add some baby arugula into the dish, unfortunately when I went to the grocery store they were all out, so I just had to make do without it!
This salad really transforms the watermelon into a savoury dish that felt surprisingly hearty! Marinating the watermelon adds subtle hints of lemon, honey and balsamic to the freshness of the watermelon, and pairing it with the feta, mint, bacon and red onion makes it much more savoury. Topping it all of with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar gives it a bit of needed acidity and a nice tang!

In the final round of steak leftovers, I give you one more steak and blue cheese inspired dish! Probably one of the most typical ways to use up leftover steak is in a sandwich of course! This one is pretty much a combination of the last two dishes I posted, but stuck between two slices of bread! Once again using the tangy blue cheese dressing, loading the sandwich with veggies, steak, and even some leftover caramelized onions! YUM!

After making the amazing Bacon & Blue Cheese Steak the other day, rather then just heat up the leftovers, I wanted to make something delicious and blog-worthy! Continuing on with the blue cheese and bacon theme, I settled on making a delicious steak salad with bacon blue cheese dressing for lunch!
It was great! Fresh romaine lettuce, topped with tender steak and a tangy homemade blue cheese dressing made a refreshing, yet hearty lunch!

Do you ever have those days where your meals are strictly determined by the fear of expired meat? Well, today was one of those days. In fact, today was a day I ate in fear of expired everything.
Inspired by expired we’ll say!
A pack of bacon, many yogurts, lattes with that ticking time bomb of milk in my fridge, and delicious steaks to finish off this exhilarating day living on the edge of expiration!

This potato was delicious. My only beef, is every time I think of the name I can’t help but think of David Hasselhoff. What is a Hasselback anyways? Could it be David Hasselhoff’s back? I’ve suddenly lost my appetite…
