Fudgee-O Cupcakes

It seems like birthday baking is a popular theme here lately on BS’ in the Kitchen, not too long ago we made the Pink Ombre Rose Cake and now we bring you some rich, fudgey, chocolately cupcakes inspired by Fudgee-O cookies! The good man who received these cupcakes loves chocolate chip cookies, among a few other things, but when I found out that he also loves Fudgee-O cookies, I knew a Fudgee-O Cookie Cupcake would have to make an appearance for his birthday! And to my surprise, it looks like there aren’t too many Fudgee-O cupcake recipes out there in the food blogger world, so I really hope you all enjoy this recipe, so let’s get to it! Continue reading

Soft Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

I have something to admit, last winter I tried making sugar cookies and failed miserably. I’m not talking “just didn’t turn out”, I’m talking “wouldn’t hold a shape, crumbled everywhere and generally tasted like crap”. After that little experience, sugar cookies have made me a bit nervous. Almost egg white nervous….yes, it really was that bad. But what better way to get over your fears then to jump right back in the saddle! I found this recipe online, added my own twists to it then took it for a test drive, and am I ever happy I did! This is now my staple sugar cookie recipe – the cookies are light, soft, fluffy, easy to roll & cut with cookie cutters and have great flavour. I’ve already made them a few times (in the shapes of little walleye fish, semi-trucks, ghosts and even some glittery pumpkins) and they are a hit with the crowds too! In true BS fashion, let’s get to the recipe. Continue reading

Pumpkin Spice Cookies with a Salted Caramel Frosting

It’s hard to believe summer is over and a crisp, warm fall is upon us. With that said, as sad as I am to see the days getting shorter and the air cooling off, I’m happy because it’s given me a bit of incentive to get back into the kitchen. Because it’s fall, it’s time to start playing with all the traditional spices that come with fall – cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, nutmeg, rich vanilla…. the list could go on and on. When I stumbled upon this recipe last night, I knew I had to make them: Pumpkin Spice Cookies with a Salted Caramel Frosting. These little guys are awesome, almost like a hybrid between a soft and chewy gingerbread cookie and a pumpkin pie. Let’s get to the recipe so you can give them a try yourself. Continue reading

Chai Oatmeal Cookies

A few days ago, my friend Tyler texted me to tell me he had the perfect cookie inspiration: The Chai Oatmeal Cookie. Immediately I imagined the spices dancing around in my mouth and thought “great idea”! The spice of the chai would match great to the wholesome taste of the oatmeal, pair it with a bit of raisins and chocolate and WAMO – you’ve got the ultimate cookie. After making the cookie, Tyler was right. Seriously this cookie is awesome, the chai replaces the cinnamon that you would normally add into oatmeal cookies and then adds an extra dimension of flavour. Let’s get to these cookies though, I don’t want to keep you waiting any longer…

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Why is it that everyone always seems to be hunting for that perfect ooey, gooey, chewy chocolate chip cookie recipe? Maybe because the Chocolate Chip is a cookie classic, maybe because it encases a bit of sweet with a touch of salty, either way, we can all almost guarantee that Chocolate Chip Cookies are not going away. I hunted down this recipe and decided to give it a shot. Thanks to Canadian Chef & total hottie, Michael Smith, for this recipe. Continue reading
