As many of you know I’m an avid bowhunter and now that September is here, hunting is in full swing. One of my favorite parts about hunting is being able to spend time with my “second” family, the Kuiack’s. After coming in for a visit, Heather (my other mom) sent me home with TONS of pickles from her garden and this fabulous recipe for sweet pickles that came from a neighbor of theirs. These pickles still have a slight crunch, a perfect sweet and vinegar-tart taste and would be great served with crackers and cheese or on your favourite sandwich.. Let’s get to the recipe so you can enjoy these easy, deliciously sweet pickles. Continue reading

In the final round of steak leftovers, I give you one more steak and blue cheese inspired dish! Probably one of the most typical ways to use up leftover steak is in a sandwich of course! This one is pretty much a combination of the last two dishes I posted, but stuck between two slices of bread! Once again using the tangy blue cheese dressing, loading the sandwich with veggies, steak, and even some leftover caramelized onions! YUM!

Inspired by a similar drink at a local Saskatoon restaurant/lounge called The Rook & Raven, I decided to try and make my own version! Cucumber and basil in a cocktail may seem like a strange combo to some, but I assure you it is delicious and very refreshing! Especially with gin! I even decided to do a short recipe video for it, I hope you guys enjoy it!

I’m stepping out of my usual ooey gooey, melty grilled cheese territory with this one! It’s a veggie packed, crunchy, creamy grilled cheese, and it’s delicious! A traditional greek salad, in sandwich form! Since feta is a more solid cheese, you don’t get that stringy meltyness from it when it heats up, instead it retains it’s shape for the most part, but gets extra creamy, which is equally delicious and a nice change! I was slightly concerned about how well the cucumbers would hold up under the heat (soggy cucumbers are gross!), but they remained crunchy, taking on a more pickle like crunch, rather than the cucumbers usual fresh crunch.

A good friend at work always makes Greek Salad and I go all kindergarten on her and usually end up trading some of my lunch or flat out stealing some of her delicious greek salads she always makes. So I finally got the ingredients to make them myself. If you’re trying to up your veggie intake this is a great way to do so! So let’s get to the recipe (which yields about 2-3 servings of entree sized salads) Continue reading
