Fudgee-O Cupcakes

It seems like birthday baking is a popular theme here lately on BS’ in the Kitchen, not too long ago we made the Pink Ombre Rose Cake and now we bring you some rich, fudgey, chocolately cupcakes inspired by Fudgee-O cookies! The good man who received these cupcakes loves chocolate chip cookies, among a few other things, but when I found out that he also loves Fudgee-O cookies, I knew a Fudgee-O Cookie Cupcake would have to make an appearance for his birthday! And to my surprise, it looks like there aren’t too many Fudgee-O cupcake recipes out there in the food blogger world, so I really hope you all enjoy this recipe, so let’s get to it! Continue reading

The Beer Buddy Cupcake as featured on CTV Morning Live Saskatoon

If you’ve been following our Facebook Page, you might know that we’ve been asked by CTV Morning Live Saskatoon (a local news station in our city) to come on air to do a cooking segment. When Bob & I got the news we were pretty excited and started racking our brains for what we could make under their requested theme of “Grey Cup Party”. We knew we should stick to our classics with Bob covering the grilled cheese front and myself, tackling the cupcakes. But my brain had a bit of a “food block” – how can you make a cupcake appropriate for a football party?? Now here was my thought pattern: football…party…manly men yelling at a TV…beer….pretzels...okay, now let’s combine them into something sweet, salty and decadent: The Beer Buddy Cupcake – a beer infused chocolate cupcake topped with a Salted Caramel Buttercream and garnished with pretzels. Voila! Game day appropriate cupcakes! Now let’s get to the recipe…

Fruit Loop Cupcakes

While lots of dessert trends seem to come and go, I think cupcakes are just one of those things that will stick around forever (like the Little Black Dress of the baking world). After rave reviews of my Dr. Pepper Cupcakes,  Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cupcakes & Mancakes (bacon chocolate cupcakes) from BS’ers, I decided to continue on the trend of non-traditional, brand-name treats inspired cupcakes and made these Fruit Loop Cupcakes! These little babies have a sweet, fruity-tuity touch to them and bring back tons of childhood memories. Let’s get to the recipe…. Continue reading

Mancakes | Saskatoon C95 Bachelor Bacon Chocolate Cupcakes

So I guess the cat is out of the bag… I’ve been selected to participate on C95′s (a local radio station) version of The Bachelor as one of their lucky five bachelorettes. I was trying to think of something creative and delicious and yet a bit different to bring for my first in-station interview. So I decided what is a better way to a guy’s heart but food – specifically bacon and chocolate. Thus my invention of the Mancake. I figure the word ‘cupcake’ is a bit too girly and doesn’t perfectly describe a cupcake that combines chocolate and candied bacon – thus the word Mancake was born. Continue reading

Best Red Velvet Cake or Cupcakes Recipe

Red velvet is one of my favourite cakes. Everyone thinks it’s really fancy, but let’s get real here – it’s super easy. Just think of it as a mellowed chocolate cake with some kick (all thanks to our buddy vinegar). In the past, I religiously used the Magnolia Bakery Red Velvet cake from their great cookbook, but found it to be a tad dry and dense, so I decided to switch it this time to Chef Cake Man Raven‘s Red Velvet Cake recipe. WOW. I’m happy I switched! These cupcakes were perfectly moist, melt in your mouth delicious and nice and light. Continue reading

Dr. Pepper Cupcakes

Dr. Pepper Cupcakes | bsinthekitchen.com #drpepper #cupcake #bsinthekitchen

Well BS’ers it looks like I’ve been challenged to another ‘Iron Chef’ recipe – to make Dr. Pepper flavoured cupcakes for a pregnant lady at work whose had non-stop cravings for DP. So L, these cupcakes are for you and the soon-to-be-Dr.Pepper’s-Number-One-Fan. All the best in the last few days of your pregnancy and can’t wait to meet the little turk! Let’s get to the recipe…. Yanke-Doodles: Blue Hi-Hat Cupcakes

Hi-Hat Cupcakes seem to be a hit whenever I make them. Their unique little hard hat chocolate casing and sweet, fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth meringue filling is a deadly combination for a great tasting cupcake. I made these blue hi-hats for a work double-bday celebration back in April (yes, I know I’m a little behind on this post), and to say the least these were the first of two cupcakes to go! Now you’ve waited long enough for this recipe, so let’s just get to it… Continue reading

Nanaimo Bar Cupcakes

There are MANY great things to say about Nanaimo Bars: One – they are a delicious, authentic Canadian treat, Two – a beautiful town in BC where I have relatives and Three – my FAVOURITE type of square. Then combine this with a cupcake. Helllllooo hybrid of awesomeness! I’m drooling already, so let’s just get to the recipe.
