HOLY MOLY…feels like I stuffed half of Mexico inside me with this one i’m so full! Carbs on carbs on carbs, refried beans, spicy Mexican green sauce, fresh salsa, loads of cheese, queso fresco, avocado, the list goes on! My stomach can’t take it anymore! Visiting the local Mexican grocery store El Mercado Las Palapas for the first time, not only was I welcomed by wonderful Mexican goods, but by not-so-quiet whispers coming from behind the cash register.

As part of my recipe testing for the Meat & Bread Porchetta that i’m planning on making in the near future, I needed to try out an Italian Salsa Verde. Instead of following the salsa verde on I am a Food Blog, I decided to go with a more traditional version and slightly modified a recipe from Bon Appetit.

After working way too many hours this week, I’m finally getting some well deserved R & R this long weekend, at my girlfriends family’s gorgeous cabin in Columbia Lake, BC. Being so busy at work, I’ve been neglecting my blogging duties, and relaxing at a cabin goes hand in hand with having plenty to eat and drink, which just so happens to go hand in hand with a little blogging!
Not a bad view!
After a friendly neighbour brought over some delicious Taber corn (adding to the already abundant supply on hand), a corn related recipe was definitely in order! Having seen several variations of corn salsa online and in magazines, I decided it was time to whip up my own!

If anyone knows our family, they know we are big into fishing – specifically walleye. Our dad, the leader of the Deutscher pack, was a member of Team Canada for walleye fishing (yes, there is a team Canada…), Board for the Fishing for Tomorrow Foundation and the Saskatchewan Walleye Trail‘s Vice President, it’s safe to say we know how to fish. Anyways, my dad and I went fishing one day and caught some decent sized walleye. I decided it was time to break away from the routine of the normal breaded and fried walleye and found this fabulous recipe and it was a new family hit! Continue reading

I’m back again! This time with the second instalment in my portobello series, the Breakfast Portobello. Prior to this past month, I hadn’t done much cooking with portobello mushrooms, so I enjoyed creating some interesting and delicious ways to serve them up. I will definitely be cooking with them more often and hope you guys do too!

For the Canada Day Weekend, my grandparents were nice enough to let me take a few friends to their cabin. So friends, if you’re reading this, be sure to comment below and say thanks – my grandma subscribes to the blog and will see your comments!! But like any Deutscher tradition, food is a must when entertaining guests! Keep their bellies happy and they will be happy!
During the weekend we ate like kings – from homemade four bean hummus with an assortment of veggies, homemade salsa with chicken to guacamole, sweet potato fries, over roasted hashbrowns, bbq’d eggs, skor bit fruit dip to coconut-panko shrimp!
