Yesterday was wine and cheese, and today I present another classic pairing: tomato soup and grilled cheese! Sometimes the simplest pairings are the most delicious, such is the case with this grilled cheese. Gooey cheese and a layer of concentrated tomato soup spread on each slice brings that classic flavour right into the palm of your hands. No spoons needed!

Sorry for being a bit absent on the blog lately and an even bigger thanks to Bob for carrying things along and posting some really delicious recipes. Last night I was pretty hungry and after avoiding groceries for the past three weeks, the only thing I really had in my fridge was celery… yup you heard me… boring ol’ celery. So I chopped a bunch up and just started creating and this is what I came up with. It was a great little soup that would best be served as a side soup or an appetizer to a great sandwich (perhaps one of Bob’s fabulous grilled cheeses). Let’s continue to the recipe. Continue reading
Roughly a week ago my good friend (and uber-ultra-superbly talented photographer), Lauren made this soup during one of our little editing date nights and I just LOVED it! It was light, hearty and full of flavour. I knew I’d have to recreate it. Luckily for me, I already had all of the simple ingredients in my fridge. Let’s get to this great and easy soup! If you’ve been ready the blog for the past little while, you’ll know that I’m on a bit of a lentil kick. These little guys are packed with flavour, fibre, protein and vitamins, so what’s not to love! This easy fall soup is just an extension of my love. Two loves actually because it comes from the Kraft ‘What’s Cooking’ Recipe Flyer (I always find great recipe in those!), I slightly altered the recipe, but nothing huge. But let’s get to the recipe! Continue reading
We are now on week five of trying various recipes of Julia Child’s – hard to believe time is zipping by this quickly. When we received this soup recipe I was quite excited because potatoes are one of my favourite veggies and leeks are pretty sweet too with their fun, light onion taste. With this soup being served cold, it’s a great summer meal; but take note that it’s great served warm as well. But let’s get to the recipe, because it does take a bit of time… Continue reading
Let this mark my mini-series of portobello mushroom recipes! While picking up groceries for my french onion soup recipes, portobello mushrooms were 50% off and being someone who can’t pass up a good deal like that, I had to buy some! Continuing on with the past few french onion soup related recipes, I also used it in this tasty mushroom recipe!
Introducing the French Onion Soup Grilled Cheese!!
I have had this idea for quite some time and was originally going to make it when the Caramelized Onion & Mushroom Brie Grilled Cheese was birthed, as I had bought the ingredients, but couldn’t find Gruyere cheese at my grocery store. With my afternoon off and Gruyere in my fridge, I knew this was happening! Now I don’t expect everybody to make French Onion Soup every time they want this grilled cheese (which could be often!), so I whipped this up separately even though I made my French Onion Soup at the same time. Of course if you did make French Onion Soup, you could just take some onions from that and make this grilled cheese!
Lately I have been quite busy with work, as well as some volunteer activities, and having exhausted all my archived blog posts, I was really hoping to find some time to make some blogworthy food! Fortunately/unfortunately we got a big snowstorm in Saskatoon, which meant things at work would finally slow down for a day or two, meaning I would probably get my afternoon off! Sure enough I did and I knew exactly what I was going to do! So after leaving work, I stopped off at the grocery store and stocked up on various ingredients.
I go through these phases in life where I can’t stop thinking about grilled sandwiches. My last serious episode was right around the same time BS’ In The Kitchen was born. There is just something extremely satisfying about a sandwich when you grill it. Take your bread and your ingredients and stack’em into a sandwich and you might have a tasty sandwich. But when you take all those things and fry it in a pan, or grill it in a panini press something magical happens! All those delicious ingredients just meld into this glorious irresistible super sandwich! Crispy bread, gooey cheese, all the toasty goodness that is inside…droool.
