Last night I was pretty hungry and after avoiding groceries for the past three weeks, the only thing I really had in my fridge was celery… yup you heard me… boring ol’ celery. So I chopped a bunch up and just started creating and this is what I came up with. Bouillabaisse (Mediterranean Seafood Soup) | JC100 – Week 10

Well let me start this post off with explaining why this recipe is a bit late…. Saskatchewan was slammed with a heat and humidity wave all of last week and the last place I wanted to be was inside, let alone my kitchen (my house was 27°C in the evening…. I don’t even want to know what the humidity levels were inside) and to start boiling a hot pot of soup….Nope – no thanks! Originally, I was hoping to do some walleye fishing and use some local fish, but then got rained out on that plan. Because of the rain, I headed to the grocery store to buy some seafood and was happy that I found some mussels. To continue the adventure, when I got home I opened the package and was hit with the nasty smell of seafood gone bad – wowza, talk about an awful smell. Note to others: if the mussels are even SLIGHTLY open, they have spoiled! So much for mussels in the soup. I was a bit sad too because I knew their beautiful shells would add an extra dimension to the plating. But in good news, the heat cooled off thanks to buckets of rain and I was able to make the soup. Vichyssoise (Cold Leek & Potato Soup) | JC100 – Week 5

We are now on week five of trying various recipes of Julia Child’s – hard to believe time is zipping by this quickly. When we received this soup recipe I was quite excited because potatoes are one of my favourite veggies and leeks are pretty sweet too with their fun, light onion taste. Introducing the French Onion Soup Grilled Cheese!!

I have had this idea for quite some time and was originally going to make it when the Caramelized Onion & Mushroom Brie Grilled Cheese was birthed, as I had bought the ingredients, but couldn’t find Gruyere cheese at my grocery store. With my afternoon off and Gruyere in my fridge, I knew this was happening! Now I don’t expect everybody to make French Onion Soup every time they want this grilled cheese (which could be often!), so I whipped this up separately even though I made my French Onion Soup at the same time. Of course if you did make French Onion Soup, you could just take some onions from that and make this grilled cheese!

French Onion Soup

Lately I have been quite busy with work, as well as some volunteer activities, and having exhausted all my archived blog posts, I was really hoping to find some time to make some blogworthy food! Fortunately/unfortunately we got a big snowstorm in Saskatoon, which meant things at work would finally slow down for a day or two, meaning I would probably get my afternoon off! Sure enough I did and I knew exactly what I was going to do! So after leaving work, I stopped off at the grocery store and stocked up on various ingredients.

Broccoli & Cheddar Soup Grilled Cheese

I go through these phases in life where I can’t stop thinking about grilled sandwiches. My last serious episode was right around the same time BS’ In The Kitchen was born. There is just something extremely satisfying about a sandwich when you grill it. Take your bread and your ingredients and stack’em into a sandwich and you might have a tasty sandwich. But when you take all those things and fry it in a pan, or grill it in a panini press something magical happens! All those delicious ingredients just meld into this glorious irresistible super sandwich! Crispy bread, gooey cheese, all the toasty goodness that is inside…droool.
