I recently went from having never made fried chicken, to making it four times in about a week and a half, thanks to one of my recent adventures – auditioning for Masterchef Canada! Red velvet is one of my favourite cakes. Everyone thinks it’s really fancy, but let’s get real here – it’s super easy. Just think of it as a mellowed chocolate cake with some kick (all thanks to our buddy vinegar). I first saw fried pickles awhile back and thought, what a strange, but interesting combination that was. Since then and more recently my eyes have come across more fried pickles and figured what the heck, they would be easy to make and I have all the ingredients so let’s try ‘em! After texting Carlene and telling her about the next blog recipe I was going to make, it became clear we share the same brainwaves. She responds “I just bought all the ingredients to make those!”, well sister, looks like I beat you to the punch! BUT maybe we will get lucky and she will do a bit of a twist and share her recipe too!
Let’s get to this recipe. It was strange but tasty (as evidenced by the empty bowl I found myself with afterwards…).

Whenever I am lucky enough to get home from work at a decent time while the sun is still shining bright, I try to cook something. All that light and I just want to take pictures of food! I’m crazy I know.
So after getting home from work I wanted to whip up a quick recipe and thought what better than fried green tomatoes, seeing as I had several in my garage (which my lovely mother worked painstakingly hard to pick from her garden – Thanks mom!). I have never even had fried green tomatoes, but I have had green tomato relish and really enjoy that, so what couldn’t be delicious about fried green tomatoes? I definitely enjoyed these, they had a unique flavour and I really enjoyed the tartness along with the rich flavours from the breading. I really want to put these in my next sandwich!
