I’ve always really liked carrot cake, but I’ve never actually made it before. This is likely because it’s one of my grandma’s specialities. However the calling came for a traditional dessert for a family dinner, I decided to give it a whirl and I’m quite happy with the results! It’s a classic homemade carrot cake that’s promised to make everyone happy. Continue reading

One of my good friends Lauren just celebrated her 30th birthday. Now, Lauren is one of the hardest working women I know. She works an office job and is also a professional photographer (and voted as our city’s best in 2012), so I knew she needed an extra special cake to help celebrate this milestone birthday! After seeing an ombre cake on Pinterest, I knew I wanted to give one whirl. Now, don’t fret if you are thinking “that is way too detailed and complicated for me”. It’s not. It’s actually way easier than you think. Let’s get to the recipe, so I can show you how to make your own ombre cake! Continue reading

If anyone is looking for a fairly quick and impressive recipe, salted caramels may just be up your alley! I’ve made my original salted caramel recipe a few times now and just about have it down to a science, but this time I wanted to do something a bit different,so I decided to add some vanilla beans to it. Seriously though, who doesn’t love the warm aroma of vanilla beans and the gorgeous little brown specs of beans really add a level of sophistication to a dish. After making the original recipe and these Vanilla Bean Salted Caramels, I must admit that I LOVE the vanilla version. Let’s get to the recipe, so you can decide for yourself. Continue reading
This summer has definitely been the summer of weddings - and especially August with a wedding/wedding event every single weekend. Two of my good friends, Lauren and Jerrod, got married this weekend at our family acreage. It was definitely a special wedding! For Lauren’s bridal shower, I was assigned to cupcake duty and chose to make Lauren’s favourite flavour: Vanilla Confetti Cupcakes. These little babies are cute to the sight and delightful to the taste with bold, rich vanilla flavours, so let’s get to the recipe! Continue reading

In an effort to sate my girlfriends serious addiction to Starbuck’s Earl Grey Tea Lattes I set out to see if I could easily (and cheaply) make them at home. Since I don’t own anything with a milk steamer I was unsure how this would work out, but I made do!

It seems like I’m getting to that age where a lot of my good friends are getting engaged – wait, does this mean I’m getting old?? Ekkk… Let’s hope not. Anyways, one of my best friends (let’s call her Maddog) is planning her wedding for August of 2012 and we were discussing wedding cakes. Her and her fiance were interested in making their own wedding cake, so I came up this cake: A Vanilla Cake & Amaretto Cake with a Rich Vanilla Bean Buttercream. So let’s get to this recipe which is easy enough for anyone to make their own wedding cake or cupcakes…. Continue reading

There are MANY great things to say about Nanaimo Bars: One – they are a delicious, authentic Canadian treat, Two – a beautiful town in BC where I have relatives and Three – my FAVOURITE type of square. Then combine this with a cupcake. Helllllooo hybrid of awesomeness! I’m drooling already, so let’s just get to the recipe.

I recently found a new favorite cooking blog: The Pioneer Woman. I’m not 100% sure why I love it so much, whether its her cooking, her hilarious writing style, her charming and ‘awwwww’ worthy photos or just based on the pure fact that she is seriously living my dream life.
Let’s get to the scones. I was on a hunt for a nice breakfast scone that could be matched with some homemade blueberry infused butter and properly feed the lovable douche-bag (kk, fine, also impress) for his first visit to the new pad and these scones took the prize! So sit back, relax & enjoy the original recipe from The Pioneer Woman:
