About the ‘BS’

BS’ In the Kitchen was founded on April 23rd, 2010 by brother & sister duo, Bob & Carlene Deutscher! Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada we have always enjoyed food and never hesitated to try our hand at cooking. Products of two amazing parents who may have coined the term “Under Parenting” (don’t worry it’s not as bad as it sounds!), they taught us to be independent and to learn how to do things on our own (instead doing everything for us – a.k.a. “Over Parenting”!). The independence they gave us, allowed us to roam free in the kitchen, make mistakes, but also make some delicious meals! Having always enjoyed cooking, in 2010, after becoming addicted to sites like Foodgawker and Tastespotting; learning more about the world of Food Blogging, we decided to start our own blog, thus BS’ In The Kitchen was born!

Starting a food blog has not only pushed us to become better, more passionate cooks & bakers, but also allowed us to step into the world of photography. We hope you’ll join us on our foodie adventures, as we reinvent traditional recipes, creating something new and delicious (hopefully) or try our hand at cooking the classics! You can count on Bob to cover most of the savory and hearty dishes, while Carlene takes care of the sweeter side of things with delightful desserts. Together, we believe BS’ In the Kitchen has a well-rounded view on food and the world around it!

  1. This is so wonderful! I am glad I discovered your blog from the PBS article (congrats on being featured, by the way). I can imagine how fun it is to share a passion of cooking and photography with a sibling! I have an older brother but we are so different it would never work. I like this blog because it is different than everything else out there! Fun concept, great photography. Keep it up!

  2. I just had to say “hi”…I found you on Tastespotting. Your blog’s name caught my eye, as my initials are BS. And then when I read more about you, I see that you started your blog on 04.23.10 – the very same day I did, on my youngest daughter’s birthday! Just too much coinciding to not leave a comment. Best wishes, and Happy 2nd Blogiversary very soon! :)

  3. We are a blogging sister duo also from Canada – so fun to do it with a sibling! Love your recipes :)

    • Checked out your blog – it is fabulous! If you ever venture to Saskatoon, SK drop us a line. It’d be great to meet up for a coffee, some blog chat – and of course, some food!

  4. Came across your blog and was flicking through past entries when I came across Saskatoon Berry Butter! I live in New Zealand and I am from Saskatoon! I am all of a sudden homesick! What a beautiful blog!

  5. What a great blog! Very creative and gorgeous photography! Can’t wait to try some of the recipes! Congrats! (Ben & Kristine)
