It’s hard to believe fall is already here with the trees transforming into hues of golden yellow, burnt red and rusted orange. While fall leaves some feeling a bit blue, knowing that summer is ending and winter is only around the corner, but for me – I LOVE it! Cool but still warm temperatures, the ability to relish in the last moments of the summer sun, the fashion (boots, boots, boots! Can’t forget the cozy scarves and sweaters) and not to mention great fishing, and something new for me this year – hunting! Another fall bonus is the harvest season – veggies and fruits galore!!! This year a friend shared some beautiful Saskatchewan grown apples with me, along with an apple pie and crisp that she and her mom made (This crisp was probably the best crisp I’ve ever had. The caramel like coated apples had me at first bite). You seriously can’t get a person that’s more kind and generous as she is! These apples deserved to be transformed into something delicious and this is where this recipe comes in, so let’s get to it.. Continue reading

I believe this sandwich could be a turning point in my life, marking the start of an exciting new relationship with mustard and pickles. I have never been a huge fan of mustard, and hesitated to put a bunch on this sandwich, but I did it anyways, and am sure glad I did! The mix of mustard and pickle, with the Swiss cheese, and all the hearty meat was so great!
I know this recipe isn’t much different than an actual Cuban sandwich, so to rocket it into grilled cheese territory I loaded it up with Swiss cheese! Cheese on the bottom, cheese in the middle and cheese on top! Gluing all those wonderful ingredients together into a beautiful, beeautiful sandwich! Praise Cuba!!

Stacks of smoked meat.
Layers of melted cheese curds.
Mustard smeared rye bread.
It’s a Montreal smoked meat sandwich on steroids (a.k.a. with cheese). Juicy smoked meat, rich, salty cheese curds, paired with lots of tangy mustard, sandwiched between two pieces of crunchy rye bread, I’ll be tasting this one for days! I sat there like a proud Canadian would, devouring this sandwich in my plaid flannel shirt, and YES I even spilled mustard on it! It was a glorious moment, and though I have not an inch of French in me, I proudly ate this Montreal inspired meat and cheese fest!

It’s hard to believe that another Valentine’s Day (or as I like to call it: Singles Awareness Day) has come and gone. This year, a good friend of mine, Chantal, has her fiance away at Police School so I invited her over so she wouldn’t have to be alone on the day of love and let’s face the facts – I love cooking for people! Even more when they do the dishes after! I wanted to make a meal that was healthy, yet filling, delicious and relatively quick to make. I settled on a Mustard Dill Salmon, Scalloped Potatoes, a Fresh Greens Salad and Pavlova for dessert. This recipe is also a bit different in terms of BS in the Kitchen Recipes, because this is almost a full dinner menu. Continue reading

If anyone has ever had a mentor, they know they are completely invaluable and probably the best thing since sliced bread (Capital G, L & K if you’re reading this – this means you!!). I’ve never really had a cooking mentor (if you don’t count my grandma), but I’ve recently met one. But he’s more like an Iron Chef – always pushing innovative ideas for food and makes you want to cook fancy food all the time. So this post is for you Beets – or is a Iron Chef CB a better blog name? Either way, let’s get to these chicken nuggets!

A fellow food lover, baker and chef – not to mention friend – shared this delicious recipe with me! I’ve never eaten or tried to make meatloaf, so this was an adventure for me. Something must have turned out because this recipe was EXTREMELY delicious and I will definitely be making this again! Tip of the hat goes to HW for this recipe!

Lately the soon to be winter blues have really been affecting my blogging activity. Mainly due to the fact that I start preparing a meal around 5:30 and it’s dark by the time I start cooking it, leaving me with NO NATURAL LIGHT to take drool inducing pictures with! Fortunately I have found a cure for my winter blues in some beautiful homemade daylight lamps (which I will be posting about shortly). So with my new lighting set-up in place, I felt nothing could hold me back! Perhaps it was this liberation that had me inspired to start throwing some spices together and make an original recipe. So here you have it, a Bobby D original recipe and I can assure you, it actually tasted quite good (though I was worried I was whipping up a disaster). Here it is:
Hey everybody it’s me again!
So I bought some chicken wings and had to decide how I was going to go about cooking them. Since I was having a hankering for ranch, barbecue ranch wings it was going to be! Now as usual when I cook I kind of just freestyled it, so you should also add your own twist if you go about cooking this recipe!
