While I was creating the Roasted Garlic, Spinach & Bacon Rangoon, I also wanted to do some form of dessert finger food. Seeing as I still had half a pack of wonton wrappers left, and several cans of pumpkin filling in my cupboard, this was a no brainer! It’s a fun take on your traditional pumpkin pie, wrapped in wontons, fried into a crispy dumpling, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and dipped in some whipped cream! Probably don’t need to convince you to try these ones hey? Well if I do, just imagine a cross between pumpkin pie and a churro! YUM!

Pumpkin Pie Dumpling
- Wonton Wrappers (50-60)
- 1 can (400 ml) pureed pumpkin
- 250g cream cheese
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp ginger
- 1/8 tsp clove
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients for the pumpkin pie filling, mixing until everything is combined. Once your filling is finished, you can begin wrapping your dumplings. Lay out several wonton wrappers at a time, place a little under a tablespoon of filling in the center of each wonton.
To form the dumpling, just dip your fingers in some water, and brush each edge of the wonton to get it moist, then fold it in half, pressing the wonton together, pinching each side together, and keeping the filling in the center. When all your dumplings are finished, set them on paper towel, and let them dry for about 30 minutes before frying for best results.
Watch this video to see how the dumplings are formed.
These can store in the fridge for several days, and I imagine they would also freeze well (though I didn’t end up freezing any). To cook them, you can deep fry them, or as I did, pan fry them on medium heat in enough canola oil to cover the bottom of your pan. If you wish, you can also add in a chunk of butter for extra flavour!
When your dumplings are golden brown on each side, place them on a plate, sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar, and serve with a bowl of whipped cream for dipping!
Cinnamon Sugar
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 3/4 tsp cinnamon
Mix ingredients, until each part is evenly distributed.
Spiced Whipping Cream
- 1 cup of whipping cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- pinch of clove
- pinch of nutmeg
- pinch of ginger
- 1 tbsp sugar
In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients except the sugar, whisking until the cream begins to thicken. Once it has thickened add in the sugar, whisking until you achieve stiff peaks, or your desired thickness.
Enjoy!
