Avocado Smoothie

February 14, 2011 by bsinthekitchen

Today I bring you something quite peculiar, kind of gross sounding, but very delicious! The Avocado Smoothie:

Avocado Smoothie

  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 Cup 1% Milk (reduced by ½) or ½ Cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1Tbsp Agave Nectar (or honey)
  • 1 Lime Juiced
  • 6 Ice Cubes

As I was searching Foodgawker high and low for recipes with avocado, I wanted to do something that was different from all the typical “these avocado slices in this sandwich is the best thing since sliced bread” type recipes and came across this: Sinh To Bo an avocado shake. Now I didn’t have most of the specific ingredients to make this (as usual) so I improvised and just used the idea to guide me on this delicious avocado adventure!

The best thing about this recipe is how quick and easy it is to make (that is if you actually have sweetened condensed milk on hand). If you don’t have any sweetened condensed milk all you need to do is pour one cup of milk into a pot on medium heat and simmer until it reduces by half (so you end up with ½ a cup of milk). Once your milk is nearly reduced add one tablespoon of sugar (more if you like it sweeter) and stir it to dissolve the sugar. After you have the milk reduced by half, put it in the fridge and let things cool down.

If you had to reduce milk like me, just take it out of the fridge once cooled, add all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until everything is smooth, pour into a glass and enjoy! Just keep in mind that if you use a blendtec vs vitamix, the creaminess of your results will vary.

I was really uncertain whether this was actually going to taste good, but the creaminess of the avocado, sweetness of the condensed milk and zip of the lime all came together as a very delicious combination!

Hope you try this adventurous recipe too!

Bob

This smoothie seems great for the morning. Avocados are so great at breakfast – Really fill you up. I even put it on my bagel sometimes 🙂

There’s a similar Filipino favorite. Avocado slices + crushed ice + condensed milk. Mix and eat in either a “smoothie” fashion or a “dessert” fashion

    Thanks,
I love avocado and have been wanting to use it in “sweeter” recipes 🙂

Did you forget to mention how many avocados? It’s not listed in the ingredients?
