Dinosaur Cake

September 12, 2011 by bsinthekitchen

We recently had a 60th birthday in our office at work for the “big dog” so I made this ‘ancient dinosaur’ cake for him to celebrate the milestone!

The cake itself was done from a red velvet cake recipe from Magnolia Bakery. I have to admit that I’m not too fond of this recipe anymore. It’s too dry for my liking. I’m not sure if I’m over baking it or its just the recipe. I think I’m going to fool around with it a bit and try adding oil verse butter to see if that makes a difference. If you are interested in the recipe, it can be found here.

For the icing, I did a basic cream cheese buttercream icing:

  • 1 block of cream cheese
  • Icing Sugar
  • Butter
  • Whipping Cream
  • Vanilla Flavoring
And decorated the cake with various candies from the Bulk Barn! Not a lot of detail on this post – more or less just wanted to show pictures of the cake :).
A basic cake that I whipped up but still did the trick to celebrate a birthday!
