Blue Bow-tie Pasta & a Cheddar Sun Dried Tomato Cheese Sauce

March 5, 2011 by bsinthekitchen

Some of you faithful BS’ers may remember Bob’s black and white bow-tie recipe, well I’m taking my run at them now. At Home Sense, I found the exact same pasta, but this time blue and black. While this pasta is cute and fun for the occasional dinner, I personally wouldn’t add it to my regular diet just because of the high amount of dye in the pasta. But let’s get to this recipe…

Get some similar pasta here:

Start the process by boiling the pasta until cooked in a heavily salted water. I used some smoked sea salt  from the Bulk Barn that added a fabulous smokey taste to the pasta. For the cheese sauce, I brought the following ingredients to a light boil in a medium sized sauce pan:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 of a small white onion (chopped)
  • 1 tsp smoked sea salt
  • 1 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 tbsp honey mustard
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2-3 tbsp sun-dried tomatoes (can add more or less depending on personal preference)
  • Dash of paprika
  • 3/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Plate your cheese sauce and then place the pasta on top of the cheese, allowing the pasta to fully showcase its bright colours.

Enjoy this funky dish,

Carlene

Where did you get the black and blue noodles?

We found them at HomeSense in Canada (which is a division of TJX in the states).

This looks like so much fun! Great for a babysitting night or just to appease the kids. It would be great to do a green pasta with a tomato based sauce for a good carb kick for the kids on Halloween!

      Hi Jacqueline,

Good catch! This is what you get for doing a post in the wee hours of the morning – while there are tomatoes there are no red peppers, but I bet it would taste great with adding in a whole roasted red pepper that has been diced.

Thanks for the catch & we’ve made the change to the title! 🙂

Very cool. There is a tutorial out there that teaches you how to make your own:
