Hello everybody!
Today we have a great and easy way to use up leftover steak! Here’s what you will need:
Steak Quesadilla
- ½ of a steak
- Havarti cheese
- Thyme
- Onions
- Barbecue sauce
- Butter
- 1 tortilla (I used tomato flavoured)
- Garden vegetable cream cheese
- Tomato based pizza/pasta sauce
Directions:
Get a pan large enough to fit your tortilla on medium heat, add butter and saute the onions. Once the onions become clear, add in your steak slices, along with a pinch of thyme. Cook this for about a minute, add barbecue sauce and mix until coated, once this is done take your steak and onions out of the pan.
Take your tortilla, spread cream cheese on one half and pasta sauce on the other half, add cheese on one side, then your steak and onions and then more cheese! Melt some butter in your pan until it’s sizzling and fold your tortilla in half and cook until golden brown on each side. Then devour!
You can never go wrong with making a simple quesadilla, they are fast and delicious!
Hope you enjoy.

Really, that’s the best we can do on ingredient quantities? I am all about creative approximating, but this is a little over the top.

Sorry John. It is a fairly simple quesadilla, and the ingredients are not specific, as the intention is for you to add the stated ingredients to your liking. Some people like more/less sauce, cheese, spice, etc.
If you need more guidance, I would suggest using a slice of an onion, sauteed over medium heat with a tablespoon of butter. Add a pinch of thyme once you have added your steak, then 1-2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce (more or less to your preference…). To place the ingredients on the tortilla, spread enough cream cheese on one half of the tortilla to cover it evenly, and do the same with the pizza/pasta sauce on the other half of your tortilla. Add your desired amount of cheese, I usually slice enough to cover the majority of the quesadilla. Top the cheese with your steak and onions, then add more cheese on top if you wish, finish by folding the quesadilla in half. In the same pan on medium heat, add a tablespoon of butter (or enough to coat the bottom of the pan), then add your quesadilla, cooking both sides until golden brown.
I hope this extra help will allow you to make (and hopefully enjoy) this recipe.
Thanks,
Bob

Thanks Bob, and sorry for being cranky about it. :p I tried it tonight and discovered it really was pretty self-explanatory once I was doing it. I’m not so sure about the pizza/pasta sauce in the mix but other than that it was great! Very customizable.

we used some garlic in there too along with some salt and pepper and we used regular cream cheese (we couldn’t find garden vegetable cream cheese) and it was still ahhhhhhmazing!
bsinthekitchen
Glad to hear it turned out well!

Hmmmm, looks good—-I’m going to try this with wild duck leg meat instead of beef.
bsinthekitchen
That sounds delicious! We have some wild duck in our freezer right now, we may just need to give that a try too!

this looks so good. I should not be looking at this at work. YUM!
bsinthekitchen
Only used it because i had some fresh stuff in the fridge! You have to be careful not to add too much though, because it has such a strong flavour.

Those look delicious. I love all the juices from the meat and onions on the cutting board–it makes this look soooo good!
Interesting idea using thyme. I wouldn’t have normally thought of it for quesadillas. Any reasoning behind it?
