Breakfast Risotto Balls

November 23, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

What can you do with leftover risotto other than eat it? Make Risotto Balls and THEN eat it! As I began to get hungry again after making my breakfast risotto, I began wondering what I could make for lunch. Feeling a little lazy I was struck by inspiration and decided to make risotto balls out of my leftover Breakfast Risotto.

Breakfast Risotto

November 21, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

How about another risotto everybody!? Now this certainly isn’t your typical risotto, it’s made to be more of an oatmeal/porridge styled meal, but it is soooo good! Here is the recipe that I sort of followed, but had to slightly modify as usual.

Beetroot Risotto

November 17, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

It seems as though I have been getting drowned out by Carlene’s post overdose lately, which of course, I have no problem with. More posts the merrier, right? Well I am now unemployed and loving it…Don’t worry, I didn’t get fired. So being that I am unemployed I have a great deal more time on my hands, meaning more cooking!

How to Cut Open a Pomegranate

November 16, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

It’s pomegranate season! Hooray! Pomegranates are one of my favourite fruits – packed with anti-oxidants, tastes amazing and is generally just a good-lookin’ fruit. Now the thing with pomegranates, they are a bit tricky to open up, so here’s a quick how-to on how to get the seeds out of the pomegranates:

Autumn Turkey Chilli

November 15, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

I was recently craving chilli, but I’m not the biggest fan of ground beef, so when I stumbled upon some ground turkey at Wal-mart I knew this could satisfy my craving! I wanted to make a chilli that was filling, healthy and had a nice sweet warmth to it, so off into the kitchen I ventured.

Vintage Peanut Butter Cookies

November 14, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

During his visit, the LD also requested peanut butter cookies (actually he’s been requesting these for a while, but I haven’t had the time to bake them). In the process of making these cookies, I discovered that finding a base recipe for classic peanut butter cookies is actually fairly challenging. So if you’re looking for a spin on the traditional PB Cookie, they are definitely out there and a simple Taste Spotting or Food Gawker search will find them.

The Adventures with Herman (How to Cook a Lobster)

November 14, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

On another recent adventure with the Loveable Douchebag (don’t worry, he’s approved this name) we decided to venture into the world of lobster for numerous reasons (i.e. I have been scared to make lobster since my last memory is my mom bringing some home from Halifax and hearing them scream to their death as they are lower into a death boil, lobsters tend to be expensive, the LD eats lots of lobster but has never cooked one), so it was off to the world of lobsters!!

So I think there’s sometimes a lot of perceptions around food bloggers that we always eat excellently prepared food which is beautifully plated all the time…. well I’m here to bring you back to reality. It’s not true! Some times we’re rushed, haven’t had time to get groceries or are just flat out exhausted from a long day of work to make a good meal!

German Chocolate Cake Cookies

November 8, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

Given the fact that our last name translates into “Germaner” (or for a direct-literal translation: German Boy), it’s about time that we feature some true german food! Now everyone at one point in their life has probably had German Cake – rich chocolate slabs of cake with layers of gooey, creamy coconut-nut filling topped with chocolate icing. But I can almost guarantee none of you have had these: German Chocolate Cake Cookies!

Grilled Cheese & Caramelized Apples Sandwich

November 7, 2010 by bsinthekitchen

This is a sandwich I have been meaning to blog for awhile. A slight twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, adding candied apples. Now some people may scoff at the idea of a grilled cheese and apple sandwich, and some know better and have experienced this delightful meal!
