I’ve always really liked carrot cake, but I’ve never actually made it before. This is likely because it’s one of my grandma’s specialities. However the calling came for a traditional dessert for a family dinner, I decided to give it a whirl and I’m quite happy with the results! It’s a classic homemade carrot cake that’s promised to make everyone happy….
Cheesy Artichoke Bread
Now that Bob and I have both moved out of our parents acreage, we often go back home for a Sunday visit to comfort our poor empty nester parents (you miss us Mom & Dad? Right??), and in true BS’ in the Kitchen fashion, we cook the meal! This past Sunday, we offered a menu of Slow Cooker Pulled Pork with a Purple Cabbage & Apple Slaw, along with an old fashioned Carrot Cake for dessert. As an appetizer, we took to Pinterest and made this Cheesy Artichoke Bread after being highly recommended by a friend. Let’s all stop drooling and get to the recipe!

Purple Cabbage & Apple Slaw
To go along with the pulled pork Carlene was making for our Sunday family supper, I wanted a bright, tangy slaw to contrast the rich, smokey pulled pork flavour. With that idea in mind, I went with a cabbage/apple slaw, and started mixing in ingredients until I got what I was looking for!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
After a perfect afternoon of ice fishing (okay well not perfect-perfect, because we didn’t even get a single bite and almost hit a deer with the truck – literally missing it by centimeters, but it was perfect in the sense that we got to spend some time enjoying the great Canadian outdoors)…. okay back on topic, after icing fishing, the Good Man and I headed home for a lovely prepared dinner thanks to our good friend, the slow cooker (aka. the crock pot). This recipe for pulled pork is sweet, savoury with a bit of a kick and most of all, the meat is tender and delicious! We served it up with some Whole Wheat Biscuits and a basic Caesar Salad and the meal was complete. But let’s get to the recipe, so you can get cooking!…
Italian Salsa Verde
As part of my recipe testing for the Meat & Bread Porchetta that i’m planning on making in the near future, I needed to try out an Italian Salsa Verde. Instead of following the salsa verde on I am a Food Blog, I decided to go with a more traditional version and slightly modified a recipe from Bon Appetit.

Herb Rubbed Pork Loin
I have been dreaming about making Porchetta like the one from Vancouver’s Meat & Bread (an amazingly good sandwich shop), but before I bought all the ingredients, I wanted to test this recipe first. After modifying it a bit for a small pork loin, I can happily say the seasoning is definitely similar to Meat & Bread’s, and with crackling and all, this would be pretty amazing!

Earthy Spinach Salad
Even though I love salad, for whatever reason, I never make it for myself. With that realization, I decided it was time to experiment. After tossing some ideas around (bad pun?), this is what I came up with!

Churros – When Good Churros Go Bad
This post is like a recipe and public service announcement all in one, read carefully, this could save you from disaster. Actually.
I should also mention, I didn’t make these with the intention of posting them on the blog, but after it was all said and done, I had to share the story, so I snapped some photos with my iPhone. (Thank god I didn’t have my actual camera on me! You’ll find out why, soon enough)
What began as an exciting foray into the cuisine of Spain, became a harrowing tale of disaster and determination, in what has become the scariest thing I have ever cooked.
Churros.

Fudgee-O Cupcakes
It seems like birthday baking is a popular theme here lately on BS’ in the Kitchen, not too long ago we made the Pink Ombre Rose Cake and now we bring you some rich, fudgey, chocolately cupcakes inspired by Fudgee-O cookies! The good man who received these cupcakes loves chocolate chip cookies, among a few other things, but when I found out that he also loves Fudgee-O cookies, I knew a Fudgee-O Cookie Cupcake would have to make an appearance for his birthday! And to my surprise, it looks like there aren’t too many Fudgee-O cupcake recipes out there in the food blogger world, so I really hope you all enjoy this recipe, so let’s get to it!…
Roasted Pine Nut, Bacon & Mushroom Stuffed Skin Chicken Breast
I have been wanting to try making stuffed skin chicken breasts for several months now, and had purchased the chicken, put it in the freezer, but never gotten around to making it until now. Since I had just gotten back from Jamaica, my fridge was a void of empty space, and so began the raid of my freezer. After pulling out the chicken, I scavenged through my fridge and pantry, and was able to pull together some pretty wonderful ingredients, coming up with this tasty recipe! Not bad if I do say so myself!
