Smoked Salmon Bagel Grilled Cheese

April 1, 2013 by bsinthekitchen

Smoked Salmon Bagel Grilled Cheese | bsinthekitchen.com #salmon #grilledcheese #bsinthekitchen

Let this mark the beginning of our month long ode to the almighty Grilled Cheese! As part of National Grilled Cheese Month (possibly the best month ever), we are going to be posting a new grilled cheese EVERY DAY, yes you read that right! Every day tune-in to BS’ in the Kitchen and treat your visual tastebuds to some amazing new grilled cheeses (and THEY WILL be amazing!).

To start things off I present the Smoked Salmon Bagel Grilled Cheese, all the classic flavours of a smoked salmon bagel, with some Gruyere cheese, grilled to perfection! And when I say perfection, I mean it! This sandwich/bagel was amazing! I don’t even like smoked salmon that much, but it paired really well with the Gruyere cheese, I couldn’t get enough! You get the crisp exterior of the bagel, a smooth, creamy layer of cream cheese, a subtle bite from the red onion mixed in with the smokey, nutty flavour from the salmon and Gruyere. Then every couple of bites, there is a burst of pickled-vinegary flavour from the capers and a fresh bite of dill. The ingredients balanced each other so well and made for one unreal grilled cheese!

Ricotta & Spinach Stuffed Spinach Ravioli

March 28, 2013 by bsinthekitchen

 Ricotta & Spinach Stuffed Spinach Ravioli | bsinthekitchen.com #ravioli #spinach #bsinthekitchen

Rather than try and combine both posts into one, I decided to create another one, as some people might be turned off by the idea of deep fried ravioli, and not notice that you can boil these into healthier, delicious ravioli!

Start off by making this Spinach Pasta Dough, once that is made proceed to the recipe.

Baked French Fry Poutine

March 24, 2013 by bsinthekitchen

Baked French Fry Poutine | bsinthekitchen.com #poutine #frenchfries #bsinthekitchen

In a continuation of my previous post for Baked French Fries I present to you the always delicious Poutine! This is super easy to make, and I know some of you will shame me for not using REAL gravy, but I gotta say, that salty, delicious instant gravy tastes wonderful on these fries. Guilty pleasure? Maybe.

Anyways, you can’t beat the speed of this one. Baked french fries to Poutine in like 5 minutes! Sounds good to me!

This is more of a guideline than a recipe, because well, who am I to tell you how much gravy and cheese curds you should be putting on your fries!

Bake some fries first, and proceed to recipe!

Baked French Fries

March 23, 2013 by bsinthekitchen

Baked French Fries | bsinthekitchen.com #frenchfries #healthy #bsinthekitchen

Anyone who buys those bags of frozen french fries is just cheating themselves. Especially if you have potatoes in your cupboard. These things are so simple, so delicious, and just look at how beautiful they are! Your frozen potato sticks don’t come close! Grab a russet potato, slice it up, bake it and feel the guilt wash away as you eat these non-deep fried homemade beauties (and then feel guilty as you realize you just ate a ton…oops!). Stay tuned for a much less guilt-free recipe coming in the next day or two using these tasty things! (can you guess what it might be??)

Deep Fried Spinach Ravioli with a Spicy Tomato Sauce

March 20, 2013 by bsinthekitchen

Deep Fried Spinach Ravioli | bsinthekitchen.com #ravioli #spinach #bsinthekitchen

A Kevin O’Leary inspired recipe, a strange thing you might think? Turns out he provided great inspiration for this tasty dish!

This is what we know about Kevin.

  • He can be a little full of himself from time to time…
  • He certainly “brings the heat” to hopeful entrepreneurs
  • He is all about the “green” (a.k.a $$$$)
  • His favourite restaurant in Toronto serves Italian food
  • He is a wine connoisseur

Well it’s obvious isn’t it?! We need to make an appetizer that’s full of itself, can handle the heat, is green, perhaps Italian, and maybe even has some wine in it! So it came to be, The Kevin O’Leary, a.k.a Deep Fried Ravioli Stuffed with Spinach & Ricotta, served with a Spicy Tomato Sauce!

Spinach Pasta Dough

March 19, 2013 by bsinthekitchen

Spinach Pasta Dough | bsinthekitchen.com #spinach #pastadough #bsinthekitchen

We were recently contacted by Cookin’ Greens to develop a recipe for their upcoming appearance (March 24th) on the Dragons’ Den, where they will be presenting their innovative “farm-to-freezer” product line. Given that we have the power of two minds behind BS’ in the Kitchen, we were asked to tackle the meanest of all the “Dragons” Mr. Kevin O’Leary! Our challenge was to create an O’Leary inspired appetizer using Cookin’ Greens Chopped Spinach.

Here is what we made (Deep Fried Spinach Ravioli stuffed with Spinach and Ricotta). Of course they can be boiled, rather than fried (I actually think I prefer them boiled!).

Cannoli with a Ricotta Cheese Filling

March 17, 2013 by bsinthekitchen

Homemade Cannolis with Ricotta Cheese Filling from bsinthekitchen.com | #dessert #cannoli # bsinthekitchenI have some exciting news to share with everyone – I’ve recently accepted a new job in the world of potash and phosphate.  While I am very excited to start my new role, I’m sad to say fair well to colleagues and friends at my current job in transportation. A good friend at work has been requesting cannolis for a while, so I knew I had to make them for her on my last day (even though I know we will stay friends, we just won’t be seeing each other every day). These were a bit scary for me to make as I’ve never eaten a cannoli in my life, so I had nothing to compare it to and it involved using oil to fry the cannoli pastries (reference: Bob’s disaster with frying pastry), but hey, sometimes you just have to jump off the cliff and hope you fly. This time it worked out in my favour and they actually were way easier to make than I thought. Let’s get to the recipe….

Roasted Paprika Chickpeas | bsinthekitchen.com #chickpeas #snack #bsinthekitchen

I’ve been Pinterest plagued again…. My Pinterest wall has become overloaded with delicious looking recipes for Roasted Chickpeas.
